About the Artists
Our Studio
We just finished construction of our studio, Amity Springs Creations, located near St. Helens Oregon in a peaceful rural setting. The studio is next to our bamboo nursery and our 2 cats and 2 dogs often wander in and out. When stepping outside the studio the goats are often at the gate to greet us. We are excited to have this wonderful space for glass work, and look forward to sharing our love of glass with others.
Amity Springs Creations is a member of the International Society of Glass Beadmakers, Portland Bead Society and the Columbia Arts Guild.
Beadmaker - Jennie Corlett
I have been making glass beads since 1997. Prior to beadmaking I worked in many mediums, primarily wearable art, and when I first saw glass beads fell in love with them. Here was a way to use a magical medium - glass, create small objects and best of all they could be worn. There is nothing better than being able to take your art with you everywhere. I really appreciate the small scale aspect of beads because I can start something and see it through to completion in a relatively short time. Glass is a wonderful medium, because not only can you manipulate color and texture but there is always the added dimension of the relationship between glass and light.
There are glass beads created 1000's of years ago still in existence. Although it can make me feel silly, I occasionally play with the thought that some day in the future someone will have one of my beads and wonder about me as I wonder about the creators of those ancient beads.

Color, brightness, transparency, design, and possibilities. I've always enjoyed viewing and touching glass (I try to avoid those locations where they say "Don't Touch") from stained glass creations to the newest styles on display in galleries. About 10 years ago I started working in clay, mostly throwing pots and spending an inordinate amount of time creating glazes, always looking for the perfect color combinations. Three years ago I "discovered" glass fusing and the joy of shopping for the perfect colors and creating small projects. I particularly enjoy the geometry of pieces (the math major reincarnated in glass). I consider myself a novice in the glass fusing world but now that we have a large kiln (although it's not installed yet) I can hardly wait to try new things and expand my repertoire of designs and just play.
