Postscript

At the 1992 reunion of the First Infantry Division in Chicago, we met Charles and Mary Greenwood. Chuck had joined the Third Platoon, Company I, 26th Infantry after I was gone. On the way to Chicago, we met Sven Peterson* in Spokane, Washington.

On 27 July 1993, at Pittsburgh, PA, with the Society of the First Infantry Division reunion, we had a meeting of seven men from the same Platoon, who made the D-Day invasion in France in 1944. Forty-nine years of memories flowed like water on the river.

The seven men were: T/Sgt. John (Jack) Clark*, 3d Platoon Sgt.; Sgt. David Higdon*, 3d Platoon Guide; Cpl. Charles Roadman*, Asst. Squad Leader, 2d Squad; Cpl. John "Skip" Farber*, Asst. Squad Leader, 3d Squad; 1st Class Pvt. Jim Lingg*, 1st Scout, 2d Squad; Pvt. Ed Seeds*, 2d Scout, 2d Squad; 1st Class Pvt. Pat Egan*, Scout for 1st Squad.

In addition to these seven men, we were honored with the presence of Anne & Ted Hritzko. Anne was the sister of Capt. John M. Semanchyk, our Company Commander, who was KIA on the 3d day of the invasion.

We were also pleased to have with us, Eddie Farber, son of John Farber, five wives: Doris Clark, Marie Seeds, Trudy Higdon, Ruth Roadman and my wife Jeannie Lingg. We had a friend of Pat Egan by the name of Jerry Goode, with whom we had been corresponding and who helped make all of this possible.

While attending the meeting of the 26th Inf. Rgt. in Columbia, SC in 1994 and 1995, we visited with Leon and Alma Caldwell in Kentucky and Al & Charlotte Waltz* in South Carolina.

At the 1994 1st Infantry Division reunion in Kansas City, MO, we picked up George B. and his wife Mickey and at the 1995 reunion in Kissimmee, FL, we met the son of David & Trudy Higdon, Dennis and his wife Mary. In 1998 in Las Vegas, NV we were able to meet Charlene and her husband Bill, daughter and son-in-law of Ruth & Chuck Roadman.

Other than these men, we have made contact with, and correspond with other members of Co. I, 26th Inf. Rgt. They are:

George Eldridge, Floyd J. Smith*, Louie V. Ivy*, Leo Lick, Fred Earl R., Claude H., William M., Charles N., Thomas B., Robert M. Kennedy*, Lloyd Mort*, Henry Morgan*. We located Ken B. but he passed away before we were able to meet. Also located Joe T.*, Jennings K. and Sgt. M. but they were deceased. We suspect we have found Willie J.* also deceased. Joe B.* and Charlie R.* were located but are ill and want no contact

(*) All of these men served together, were together in the D-Day Invasion and continued on together until they were wounded and separated.
