OREGON LIONS SIGHT & HEARING FOUNDATION
Directions for Sorting Used Eyeglasses and Hearing
Aids
WHAT DO WE NEED?
- We need all eyeglasses with metal frames. They may be
in any state of repair.
- We need all plastic frames and lenses, if the pair is
complete and not missing lenses or ear pieces.
- We can use sunglasses if they are clean and in good
condition.
- We need all hearing aids and parts (except
batteries).
WHAT DON'T WE WANT?
- We don't need lenses by themselves - there really is
no demand for them.
- We don't need eyeglass cases.
- We don't need hearing aid batteries.
WHAT CAN YOU DO TO HELP?
- Train the Sight & Hearing Chairman in each club
to presort all collected eyeglasses.
- Keep the hearing aids in a separate container. If we
can get each club's help in the process, the Used
Eyeglasses & Hearing Aids Committee will have an
easier job. Each region should have a central location to
sort eyeglasses and hearing aids. This could be a good
way to start a regional Sight & Hearing
Committee.
NOW THAT YOU HAVE THE EYEGLASSES - WHAT TO DO WITH
THEM?
- Save the yellow Lions collection boxes to reuse - put
the collected items in other boxes.
- Discard unnecessary parts (i.e. hearing aid
batteries, loose lenses, etc.)
- Put in separate containers the metal frames, plastic
frames, and sunglasses.
- Place all hearing aids in a small bag and place at
the top of a box of eyeglasses.
- Outside the greater Portland area, take the boxes to
your nearest Safeway store manager, and ask him/her to
please ship them to the distribution center. Be sure to
say thank you! The Safeway stores are doing the Lions a
favor.
