You Can't Teach An Old Dog New
Tricks...
How many times have you heard this old phrase as an
excuse for not trying something new or avoiding a fresh
approach? Any expert dog trainer will tell you that a dog of
almost any age can learn new tricks. It's the human animal
(often times in the disguise of a Lion) that makes choices
regarding when and how much to learn.
New changes bring in new members
Lions First - 2003 new members by 2003 - may require your
club to make some new changes in the way they present
themselves. An incredible tool to help you inform the
non-Lion public about your club is a CLUB PRESENTATION
BOARD.
This easy to assemble picture board puts your club in its
best possible light with photos from your service and social
events. Do yourself a favor, try it.. . you might just find
out that there are interested new members out there who will
be attracted to your presentation board and want to join
your club! The following "Recipe" shows how to make your
board. It's just a guideline, you can be creative and design
your own! But most of all... make a few changes in the way
you present your club to the public.
Presentation Board Recipe
- 1 Tri-fold White Foam Board 36'x48'
- 1 Roll Velcro Tape - White 3/ x 5'
- 3 Glue sticks
- 8-9 Clear Plastic 3-D Frames
- 8-9 Good color photos of your club's members,
(enlarge to 8x1 0) service activities, social get
-togethers and projects (If you don't have negatives you
can take our originals to any Office Depot, Office Max or
similar store and have them enlarge your photos on the
copy machine for a very nominal amount).
- 1 Pack any color heavy colored paper to type your
captions on
- 2-3 Plastic brochure holders
All of these items can be purchased at any office supply
or craft store. Approximate costs (not including photo
enlargements) $65.00 - less if using photo copies.
Pick your photos and line them up on the tri-fold board
making sure to keep in mind that you need to pick photos
that show a variety of members, genders, ages and that
everyone is smiling and photos are in focus! Try to get
candid shots and if they are posed, make sure to "balance"
your photos with making sure your subject is in the center
with equal amounts of side, top and bottom framing.
Prospective new members like to see photos of children's
activities so be sure to include these
Next think of a short, concise caption that depicts your
activity. Such as: Helping Youth, Providing Services to Our
Neighborhood, Supporting the Oregon Lions Sight &
Hearing Foundation, etc. Make sure you have a caption that
says, "We are looking for new members'? or something
similar.
Lay the captions and photos on the board in a pleasing
manner then place the photos in the plastic 3-D photo frames
and mount with the Velcro tape. Place one side of the Velcro
on the board and one side on the back of the photo
frame.
Feature your board at every public and social event with
two or three brochure holders to place your club's brochure,
information about the OLS&HF or other generic brochure
available. Have 2-3 membership applications and some copies
of your newsletter sitting in front of the board.
