1999 Newsletter = McNulty WATER ASSOCIATION

ANNUAL PUBLIC MEETING of the
McNulty Water Association
Tuesday, February 16 , 1999,
 7:00 PM
McNulty Office,
 34240 Millard Road
All are welcome.

WE DO NOT EXPECT TO HAVE ANY
Y2K TROUBLES
Y2K refers to the Year 2000, and to the possible
problems some equipment may encounter when
clocks and computers are unable to move gracefully
to a new century, having always dealt with 2 digit
years.

McNulty Water supplies water to over 750 homes
west of St. Helens, north of Bennett Road, and as far
north as Robinette and Hankey Roads.

McNulty Water has no equipment controlled by
clocks which are affected by the YEAR. Thus we
expect no internal problems.

As to suppliers used by McNulty Water, the only one
of note is PUD electric supply. All our pumps run
on PUD electricity.

We maintain about 1- to 2-days supply of water in
our tanks. Unless there is a large need to supply
water for firefighting, all customers except those at
highest elevations would have water for more than a
day during electricity failure.

We are looking for a diesel electric generator, large
enough to power one of the 40 hp well pumps. This
would provide enough water to keep most tanks full
indefinitely. We intend to have such a generator in
place by mid-1999.

We are considering adding a back-up pump with
generator facilities at the fairgrounds booster to
provide service to customers north of the fairgrounds
in case of extended electrical outage.

ALL CROSS-CONNECTION PREVENTION
DEVICES ARE TO BE TESTED IN THE
MONTH OF MARCH. Each owner of a back-flow

March 31.
It is the owner’s responsibility to see that the
white copy of your test is turned in to McNulty Water
by March 31.
Otherwise, the law requires the shutoff of
your water service.

AMONG THE QUALIFIED TESTERS:
Dave Graham 543-6326, Page 796-5632
Micah Olson 397-3993, Celphone 310-1047

Steve Wagner 591-5504

1999 ANNUAL DRINKING WATER QUALITY REPORT
McNulty Water Assn.

In 1999, the McNulty Water Association is
required by Federal mandate to prepare a report
to all customers of the results of Water Quality
tests.

This report is designed to inform you about the
quality water we deliver to you every day. Our
goal is to provide you with a safe and
dependable supply of drinking water.

Our water source is from three deep wells
drawing from the Warren Bench Aquifer. A
recent study by the state indicates ample supply
in this aquifer for the foreseeable future.

We are pleased to report that our drinking water
is safe and meets federal and state requirements.
We can assure you, the users, that the water you
use each day is (1) regularly tested, and (2)
passing all the tests. Over 80 organic and
inorganic constituents are tested for, and all but
two are non-detected.

Fluoride found is about 0.2 parts per million
(ppm) [a level of 0.5 ppm would be useful for
dental protective effects].
Chloride is found at 100 ppm. At that level,
the taste of salt is undetectable.
Thus, there has not been a need to “treat” or
chlorinate our water.

If you have a question about any specific
element of the test, please call 397-1301, or stop
by the office at 34240 Millard Road and see the
many-page printout with full details. You are
welcome to attend any of our regularly
scheduled meetings held at 7 p.m. on the first
Tuesday of each month at the Millard Road
office.

The Government requires the following:
==============================
All drinking water, including bottled water, may
reasonably be expected to contain at least small
amounts of some contaminants. The presence of
contaminants does not necessarily indicate that
the water poses a health risk. More information
about contaminants and potential health effects
can be obtained by calling the Environmental
Protection Agency’s Safe Drinking Water
Hotline at 1-800-426-4791.

Some people may be more vulnerable to
contaminants in drinking water than the general
population. Immuno-compromised persons such
as persons with cancer undergoing chemo-
therapy, persons who have undergone organ
transplants, people with HIV/AIDS or other
immune system disorders, some elderly, and
infants can be particularly at risk from infections.
These people should seek advice about drinking
water from their health care providers.
EPA/CDC guidelines on appropriate means to
lessen the risk of infection by cryptosporidium
and other microbiological contaminants are
available from the Safe Drinking Water Hotline
(1-800-426-4791).
====================================

Our goal is to continue to provide to all our
customers the great-tasting water we are
accustomed to.
