Rehabilitation Services

The purpose of the rehabilitation services (RS) program is to provide assistance to meet the individual needs of eligible consumers.  Services may include vocational counseling and guidance, evaluation, physical restoration, skills training, job placement, and preparation for independent living. VRD office services in collaboration and partnership with other state agencies, local community rehabilitation programs, independent living service providers, and business and industry.

Who is Eligible?

People who have verified physical or mental disabilities which are substantial impediments to obtaining or maintaining employment and who require VRD services to achieve employment outcomes.

Programs Available :

Basic vocational rehabilitation (BVR) is the primary program components.  Rehabilitation services also includes interagency projects, school to work transition services, and supported employment services.

Independent living rehabilitation (ILR) provides services designed to assist persons with severe disabilities to live as independently as possible with their families or in their communities. ILR services include direct consumer services and a network of community-based centers for independent living.

Rehabilitation Process :

Evaluation for Eligibility : based on specific program criteria, consumers are evaluated for eligibility and potential for employment.  They determination will be made, in most instances, within 60 days.

Rehabilitation Plan Developments : after an application is determines eligible, the consumer and counselor prepare a written rehabilitation plan together.

Services : services begin with vocational counseling and guidance.  Other services may include : on the job training, job search assistance, education, skills training, books, supplies or tools, transportation assistance, medical treatment, assistive devices, e.g.

Job Placement : the counselor works with the counselor to find and secure suitable employment.

Follow-up Services : post employment services may be provided to help consumers maintain their jobs and over come employment barriers.

Who Pays for Rehabilitation Services?

Rehabilitation services is funded through a federal state partnership.  The federal rehabilitation services administration (RSA) matches state funds at approximately a 4-1 ratio.
