Disability Determination
Services
The purpose of the disability determination
services (DDS) program is to develop and evaluate Social Security disability
insurance (SSDI) claims and supplemental security income (SSI) disability
claims filed by Oregon applicants. The SSDI and SSI programs are
both federally funded and regulated. We DDS program provides prompts
and accurate disability determination services to Oregonians on behalf
of the Social Security administration.
Who is Eligible?
Disabled workers under 65 and/or the family
can receive Social Security disability insurance benefits (SSDI).
People who become disabled before age
22, if a parent who is covered under Social Security retires, becomes disabled,
or dies.
Disabled widows or widowers who are at
least 50 years of age and have become disabled within seven years of the
death of a husband or wife who was covered under Social Security.
Individuals under age 65 to have limited
income and resources and are blind or disabled can receive supplemental
security income (SSI) benefits. In certain situations, a person may
be eligible for both SSDI and SSI benefits.
Programs Available:
Title II (SSDI) is for claimants who have
contributed to the Social Security trust fund and the meet the insured
status, or who were dependent upon an individual who contributed to and
met the insurance status.
Title XVI (SSI) is for claimants who meet
federal standards of financial needs.
Services Include:
Documentation of disability are approximately
35, 000 planes each year; developments of medical, vocational and social
data; professional medical review; final determination of disability.
Note: currently, about 100, 000 Oregonians
receive benefits bringing approximately $50 million per month into the
state.

Disability determination services works
closely with Social Security Administration (SSA) to provide eligibility
determination for Oregonians , and ;
Develops documentation of disability;
Develops vocational and social information;
Makes disability decisions based on SSA
regulations; and
Reports findings to the claimants local

Disability determination services is 100%
federally funded through the Social Security Administration. |
