Some
of Our Activities:
1. Community
projects
This CPT takes an active role in coordinating
projects for the community. Such projects involve a variety of community
partners, and the combined resources of one or more state or county
agencies. Mentorship programs, safe kids day, teen pregnancy prevention,
and respite care are just a few of the projects in Columbia County that
involved the CPT.
Partners involved: Our community
activities include partners from almost every organization a in the County.
For instance, service organizations such as the Kiwanis volunteer to be
youth mentor's, while local agencies provide funding for AmeriCorp RAPP
members. Local churches coordinate with the respite care director
to provide services, while fire, police, recreation and social service
agencies combined efforts to promote child safety at Safe Kids Day.
In addition, the CPT is an active member of the Human Services Coalition
of Columbia County, as well as sitting on several local boards serving
the interests of children, seniors and the developmentally disabled.
What are the numbers being served currently:
More than 350 kids attend the 1998 safe kids day. More than 80 people
are registered to provide local respite care, and youth mentorship programs,
including Students Today Aren't Ready for Sex,* are active in every community
in the County.
2. Medical
transportation:
We provide transportation to medical appointments
for low-income Columbia County residents who otherwise have no means of transportation.
All of our volunteer drivers are pre screened and complete driver training
course.
Partners involved: the process includes
clients, or agency case managers, or Community Partnership Team manager, JOBS plus worker, nurses, doctors, hospital social workers, care providers,
nursing homes, medical staff, & transportation dispatchers.
In 1999, the CPT in Columbia County provided more than
3,500 trips for people
unable to drive themselves to non-emergency medical appointments.
Our drivers log an average of 10,000 miles every month!
3. Work experience
We help clients gain on the job training
and practical work experience. We assist the clients in learning
positive work ethics, gaining a traceable work history, learning work
skills and practicing life skills to succeed in the work world. We
are able to help clients to build their self-esteem through volunteer
opportunities.
Who is involved: the Community Partnership Team, the business community, city, state and County offices, human resource
agencies, clients, and the unemployed.
The community partnership team in Columbia County has worked with more
than 78 clients for more than 3,500 work experience hours in 1999.
4. Resources
(school clothing, holidays, summer camp)
We help to provide children with school
clothing and school supplies, we assist three Columbia County communities
with Christmas gifts & food baskets, and we coordinate a summer camp
program for low income kids.
Who is involved: the business communities,
the fire department, the police department, state agencies, the school
districts, community action team, commission on children and family.

in 1999 we helped more than 3,500 people.
