COMMERCIAL RECYCLING
The cities of St. Helens and Scappoose are now offering expanded commercial recycling programs in order to make recycling more convenient for city businesses. By increasing what your business recycles, you may be able to cut your garbage costs while significantly reducing the amount of garbage being sent to our landfills. How you decide to recycle depends upon the amount and type of materials you throw away. Waste Management and Hudson Garbage Service can set up several different types of services to meet your individual needs.
For businesses in St. Helens, the following materials are collected for recycling: mixed office paper, newspaper, magazines, cardboard, tin cans, and glass. Recycling of these materials, with the exception of glass and tin cans, are included in the cost of your garbage service. For additional details, contact Hudson Garbage Service at 397-1534.
For businesses in Scappoose, the following materials are collected for recycling: mixed office paper, newspaper, magazines, cardboard, tin/aluminum cans, glass, and plastic bottles #1-7. Materials must be sorted as follows: all paper, small quantities of cardboard, newspaper, and magazines in one cart; all plastic, tin, and glass in one cart; and large quantities of cardboard in a separate container. Rates are now established for weekly pick-up. Bi-monthly, monthly, and will-call (as needed) pick-up rates will soon be available. For additional information, contact Waste Management at 543-2422 x117.
Your business may also want to consider sharing a cart with nearby businesses to reduce costs. Many employees also bring their recyclables home if they have curbside service or self-haul their recyclables for free to the Transfer Station (366-2613) on Gable Road in St. Helens or Hudsons Recycling Center (397-1534) on Old Portland Rd. in St. Helens. For additional information on commercial recycling in other parts of the County, contact your County Recycling Coordinator at 397-1501 or recycling@columbia-center.org
